54 YEARS OF HISTORY The activity developed by the Colombian Philharmonic Foundation and the work led by maestro Raúl García, allowed the creation of the  Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá,  institutionalized  through  the  Agreement  71  of  1967.  Following  the  vision intended to democratize musical culture, to promote the practice of chamber music, conducting  performance of symphonic music, the Orchestra became cultural patrimony of Bogotá. The  Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá has performed the cycles of many composers including Mahler, Bruckner, Bartók, and others. Concerts with pop artists such as Toto La Momposina, Puerto Candelaria, China Moses, Miguel Poveda, Petit Fellas, Manuel Medrano,  Juanes, Aterciopelados, Herencia de Timbiquí, have made it possible to approach new audiences. It has also been a great privilege for the Orchestra to have worked with musicians including Kent Nagano, Deborah Voight, Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, Shlomo Mintz, and others.

Since 2013, Bogotá’s Philharmonic Orchestra has taken definite steps towards achieving what it considers to be the consolidation of  the  most  ambitious  musical  project  in  Colombia:  turning  the  Orchestra  into  a system of orchestras.

In 2020 the Orchestra faced the enormous challenge of moving forward despite the global situation of the COVID-19 pandemia. With the purpose of continuing to  maintain  the  country’s  and  city’s  inhabitant’s  morale  high,  the  Orchestra  turned its efforts to the virtual field reaching new audiences with videos such as Soy Colombiano,  Pueblito  Viejo  and  concerts  with  Juanes  and  Monsieur  Periné.  More than six million people around the world have enjoyed these digital concerts. The achievements obtained during the pandemic led the Orchestra to win the Alta Gerencia  Award,  presented  by  Colombia’s  Presidency,  in  recognition  of  its  work during the pandemic situation. Together with Juanes, the Orchestra was nominated for the category “Favorite Virtual Concert” by the Latin American Music Awards.
