Alexis Soriano is among the outstanding Spanish conductors of his generation. He first finished piano degree with honors in Madrid Royal Conservatory to continue his piano studies in Manchester, moving to study conducting in Cleveland (USA) and Saint Petersburg were he became a pupil of Ilya Musin. He started his career with the Hermitage Orchestra as associated conductor between 1998 and 2008. In 2001 he did his debut with the Saint Petersburg Symphony becoming a regular guest of this orchestra.
His mentor has been Maestro Valery Gergiev, who selected him among world candidates, to take part in the film “The Master and his pupil”. Later, he made his debut in 2007, at the Mariinsky Theater conducting Figaro. He was also chief conductor of the INSO-Lviv Symphony in Ukraine from 2010 to 2012, and since 2012 he is the Artistic Director of New York Opera Society.
In 2013 he was elected Artist designate for Spain, with the distinction “100 Spaniards” representing the country abroad. As a Symphonic conductor, he has conducted world leading orchestras like:
The Mariinsky Theater Symphony, Saint Petersburg Symphony, Prague Symphony, Slovakian Philharmonic, Lithuanian National Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, Filarmonica de Buenos Aires, Tapiola Sinfonietta (Finland), Sao Paulo University Symphony, Oulu Symphony Orchestra (Finland), English Chamber Orchestra, Bari Metropolitan Orchestra, Symphony orchestra “Claudio Santoro” of Brasilia, Orchestra Kapella of St.Petersburg, Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra, Great Theater of Poznan, Moscow Virtuosi, Danubia Symphony from Hungary, All Russian Youth Orchestra, Yaroslavl Symphony, National Youth Russian Orchestra, Symphony of Macedonia, Regionale del Lazio, among others, and the majority of Spanish Orchestras.
In July 2014 he has toured Japan having concerts with the Seto Philharmonic, Okayama Symphony and The University of Tokio Symphony Orchestra, receiving high praise for his performances of Falla and Debussy, being invited again for next seasons.
He has also appeared at Teatro Real (Madrid), Teatro Colón, Palau de Valencia, Liceo de Barcelona, Auditorio de Tenerife, Lithuanian National Opera, Theatro Sao Pedro from Sao Paulo, Theatro Sergio Cardoso,Rimsky Korsakov Theater, Sankt Peterburg Opera, Hermitage Theater, conducting Operas like; “Rigoletto”, “Faust”, “Boris Godunov”, “Fille du Régiment”, “Nozze di Figaro”,”Cossi fan tutte”,“Madam Butterfly”,“Eugene Oneguin”, “Falstaff”, “Glaura y Cariolano”, “La Scala di Seta”, “L’Arbore di Diana”,”Everardo II Re di Lituania”, “Barbiere di Siviglia”.
He has also conducted prèmieres of Operas by Wilfried Junge, Agustin Castilla-Ávila, and Ricardo Llorca, and world première of Symphony nº 4 by David del Puerto. He has received also the prize of the Ciurlionis Foundation in Lithuania, for his musical achievements. As a composer he has written for piano, chamber ensembles and orchestral forces having premièred works in Spain, Russia, Germany, Ethiopia and the USA. He is a member of the Spanish Composer’s society and has been a jury at the composers competition in Sochi in 2015 and 2016.
He has held different teaching positions and given conducting Masterclasses in Tokyo and Belo Horizonte Universities as well as in Spain. In December 2017 he has conducted the world première of the Opera “Three top hats” by Ricardo Llorca in Sao Paulo with great success and in 2019 the world première of “Lilith, luna negra” by David del Puerto in Úbeda Festival, Spain . Since 2015 he collaborates with Maestro Bashmet different Music Festivals in Russia.
