김순남 작가는 뉴저지 주립대 회화와 드로잉 석사 과정을 졸업했으며, 추상 회화를 통해 색과 리듬, 그리고 내면의 에너지를 시각화한 작업을 선보이고 있다.
나이프를 사용해 물감을 축적하고 해체하는 과정이 담긴 그의 작품은 선·점·색이라는 최소한의 조형 요소를 쌓아 올리며 화면 전체를 하나의 음악적 구조이자 명상적 공간으로 구성하고 있다는 평가를 받는다.
그녀의 ‘추상의 조화와 인드라망의 역동성 표현’(Harmonic Abstraction - Indra’s Net in Motion)을 주제로 불교 우주론의 철학적 깊이와 추상 표현주의의 역동적인 구조를 연결하는 예술 세계를 보여준다.
그녀의 회화는 불교의 ‘인드라망’ 개념에서 영감을 받아, 점, 선, 색이 한데 어우러지는 우주의 영적·음악적 조화를 시각 언어로 표현한다.
그녀의 작품은 관람객들을 색과 선, 리듬이 융합된 명상적 공간으로 초대하며, 추상이면서도 깊은 영적 심포니를 경험하게 한다.
The works exhibited in this exhibition, titled 'Serenade,' are smaller pieces included in my 'New Symphony' series, which are created on canvas focussing only three formal elements: dots, lines, and colors, applied with a palette knife. I primarily use oil paint as the medium, filling the canvas with numerous colorful lines and dots.
My intention is to capture the harmonious yet intricately nuanced melodies and vibrations reminiscent of Western classical music symphonies. Additionally, this artistic gesture reflects my Buddhist contemplation, aiming to let go of attachments to finite existence and visually express the abundance of harmonious energy. My work is inspired by the belief that all beings are interconnected and reflect upon each other, much like the interconnected strands of an 'Indra's Net.' Therefore, creating harmonious energy within one person can ripple outward, affecting the world and eventually the universe.
