관행이라는 이름의 굳은 틀
어느 분야든 반복되는 것을 우리는 관행이라 부른다. 관행이 굳어지면 관습이 되고, 관습은 결국 역사가 된다. 한국의 클래식 음악도 마찬가지였다. 우리는 오랫동안 서양의 문법을 따라 배우고, 그 체계 안에서 오늘의 클래식을 만들어왔다. 그것은 분명 성장의 길이었지만, 동시에 너무 익숙해진 나머지 변화에 눈을 감게 만들었다. 제도는 변화를 꺼리고, 시장은 한계에 이른다.
서구 동경의 시대는 끝났다
이제는 달라졌다. 유학과 콩쿠르만이 길이던 시대는 지났다. 우리의 것에 대한 자신감이 커졌고, 세계는 오히려 한국의 콘텐츠를 갈망한다. 그럼에도 여전히 많은 이들이 기존 관행을 벗어나지 못한다. 하지만 생각해 보자. 우리가 서양 문화를 수입해 학원을 세우고 대학을 만들며 예술 자원을 키워냈던 것처럼, 이제는 그 반대로 우리의 것을 가지고 세계 시장을 개척할 수 있지 않을까. 기업들이 차별화된 상품으로 세계를 주도하듯, 예술 역시 같은 전략이 필요하다.
한글, K-팝, 그리고 새로운 자부심
세종학당을 통해 한글이 전 세계로 퍼져 나가고 있다. 그 뒤에는 K-팝과 BTS가 만들어낸 거대한 문화적 파급력이 있다. 세계가 한국어를 배우고, 한국 문화를 향유하며 흐름을 바꿔놓았다. 그렇다면 K-콘텐츠, K-아츠, K-클래식은 어떻게 대응해야 할까. 이제는 “우리도 할 수 있다”는 자신감, 그리고 그 자신감을 기반으로 한 시장 개척의 자부심이 필요하다. 관습과 관행의 틀을 넘어서는 패러다임 전환이 절실하다.
바이올리니스트 여근하, 샌디에고에서 시작하는 작은 물방울
우리는 그동안 바이엘, 체르니, 수많은 서양 교재에 기대어 음악을 배웠다. 하지만 이제는 그 너머를 실험해야 한다. 그래서 샌디에고에 K-Classic Music Academy란 이름으로 개인 레슨 부터 하면 어떨까? 우선은 K클래식 아티스트 바이올리니스트 여근하가 첫발을 내딛는다. 작은 물방울 하나가 파문을 일으켜 넓게 퍼져가듯, 이같은 시도가 새로운 흐름을 만들어낼 수 있을지 테스트해 보려는 것이다, 하나 분명한 것은 우리가 해야 할 가장 중요한 일이 우리 작품을 알리는 것의 구체적 실행이다.
관행은 익숙함의 이름이고, 혁신은 불편함의 이름이다. 그러나 그 불편을 넘어설 때, 비로소 새로운 역사가 시작된다. K-클래식의 길 역시 그 불편한 첫걸음에서 비롯될 것이다.

The Rigid Framework Called Convention
In any field, we call repetition a convention. When a convention solidifies, it becomes a custom, and custom ultimately becomes history. Korean classical music was no exception. For a long time, we studied Western grammar and created today's classical music within that framework. While this was certainly a path to growth, it also became so familiar that we became blind to change. Institutions are reluctant to change, and markets have reached their limits.
The Era of Admiring the West is Over
Things are different now. Gone are the days when studying abroad and competing in competitions were the only paths. Confidence in our own culture has grown, and the world, in fact, craves Korean content. Despite this, many still cling to established practices. But let's think about it. Just as we imported Western culture, established academies, established universities, and cultivated artistic resources, couldn't we now do the opposite and pioneer the global market with our own culture? Just as companies lead the world with differentiated products, the arts also need the same strategy.
Hangul, K-Pop, and a New Pride
Hangul is spreading globally through King Sejong Institute. Behind this, K-Pop and BTS have created a massive cultural impact. The world has learned Korean and embraced Korean culture, changing the course of history. So, how should K-content, K-arts, and K-classical music respond? Now, we need the confidence that "we can do it too," and the pride in pioneering markets based on that confidence. A paradigm shift that transcends conventions and practices is urgently needed.
Violinist Keunha Yer: A Small Droplet Begins in New York
We have traditionally relied on Bayer, Czerny, and countless Western textbooks to learn music. But now, we must experiment beyond that. So, how about offering private lessons in San Diego under the name of K-Classical Music Academy? K-Classical artist and violinist Keunha Yer is taking the first step. Just as a small drop of water creates ripples that spread widely, we are testing whether such an attempt can create a new trend. One thing is clear: the most important thing we must do is concretely promote our work.
Convention is the name of familiarity, and innovation is the name of inconvenience. However, only when we overcome that inconvenience can a new history truly begin. The path of K-classical music will also begin from that uncomfortable first step.
